Since when have you been working as a tailor?

I started the mobile repair work when I was 19 years old, and now I am 24. I have been working in this vocation for 2 years. I started it with my classmate in a small shop, and I learned the ways of working and earning money.

How was the situation Before the Support?

I was born into a poor family in Herat province. When I was 10 years old, I memorized the holy Qur’an Sharif. My mother is suffering from stomach disease, and unfortunately, I don’t have much money to take her abroad. I had to borrow some money from their relatives. After a short time, my relatives wanted their money from us. At that time, my father was forced to send me to Iran. I used to work hard in Iran until one day I fell from a building. When I fell to the ground, my arm and leg were broken. On that day, I spent six months in the hospital, and my problems doubled, and I became jobless. Because of these problems, I couldn’t work anymore in Iran and returned to Afghanistan again. After being unemployed for a long time, I suffered from some mental and emotional problems. Even my father and some other relatives always told me that you are a disabled person and I can’t do anything else. I said, “According to all the problems that I had, I still believed in myself and my abilities. I’m looking for a day to prove to everyone that I can.” At the beginning of my work, I needed some money, which I borrowed from my friend. After that, I decided to sell potatoes, onions, and vegetables on Jakan Street in Herat City. So in this way, I earned money, and I was very bored with my hard life. Time passed very slowly for me because I had to support my family.

How did you use the assistance?

I learned the complete system of Mobile repairing hardware and software, so I can change the parts of Mobile and also setup some programs completely and correctly. I am very happy that I can do these things and believe in my power and ability. According to the learning of this vocation, both technically and vocationally, I have learned more interesting issues about life skills and hygiene, as well as how I can setup small businesses in the future. Also, I tried to make the most of the cash assistance we were receiving during our 6-month educational period from the WFP organization. With this money, I was able to purchase the first needs of my family and also buy some needed equipment to start my work in the mobile repair profession. All the mentioned topics have motivated me to work and increased my hope for the future. I am so happy that I can help my family because of the more than 7100 AFN I received from WFP, and I receive daily transportation from the HELP and OSAA organizations.

Can you please describe your situation after the assistance?

This assistance, which was paid for by WFP, really saved my business because I was mostly suffering from economic, mental, and psychological problems. When I received the assistance, I reached my goals and decided to start a mobile phone repair shop on Jakan street in Herat City. Everything really changed. I am so happy that I had a lot of students today. My income has increased and my customers are very happy. Special thanks to UNICEF, WFP, HELP, and OSAA for creating this opportunity for all of us to learn vocational. I am very happy that after many years, at least my economic and emotional problems have been solved and I have a peaceful life.
